In order to separate my chapters, I wanted to work with a range of colours, a different colour each chapter. This should show an obvious change in chapter, but also hold some continuity.
I began by creating a range of gradients:
I wanted to separate these into different colours, so I had actual colours to work with. My favourite gradient to work with above was the bottom one, different tints of blue.
The good thing about using something similar to this is: I could use a single Pantone colour (plus black), and use various tints. This would decrease cost if it was to be mass produced.
I experimented this with a few images, which I intend to use in duetone:
PANTONE 283 U
As you can see above, there is a huge variation in colour, despite only using one spot colour. This means that the subtle use of different tints of blue will not work for my publication.
I now intend to explore further colour schemes that could work.
Excluding the introduction, I have 6 chapters to work with. Below I have considered different existing colours schemes to work with:
This idea involves using the colour wheel. It would create a huge distinction between chapters, but I feel this colour scheme seems cheap and too bright.
Here are some existing colour schemes I have researched, in order to see what I could use:
