I looked further into Japanese poster design, something I find really interesting!
The image below seems too much for my exhibition. It also appears rather dated, as oppose to the contemporary aesthetic I am going for.
The poster below is interesting. It seems that the deigned mimicked a western design style. This is something I intend on staying clear of.
Below you can see an interesting use of image manipulation. I also think the type works seamlessly within the design, and works well with the concept.

Previously, I hadn't even considered hand rendered Japanese type. This can be seen below, something I may possible consider for my posters and even the brand identity. I love the use of a grainy stock too, emphasising the idea of craft.
The poster below is the type of thing I would like to avoid. It could be seen as very Japanese, but not as sophisticated or in the same mindset as monozukuri.
